QUT Student Ombudsman, Mr Ray Morley: Biography

Mr. Ray Morley

Ray Morley has worked in Tertiary Education for his entire career, commencing in January 1967 at the Queensland Institute of Technology. He completed his Queensland Senior School studies and both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees as a part time student. He has served at a number of Universities including a 15 year period at Griffith University from early 1980. He has experience in most administrative areas of Universities and has been an occasional part time academic staff member in the area of Business Communication.

Since 1995 he has been QUT's Director of Student Administration, Student Services and Student Support Services Departments. He was instrumental in establishing QUT's First Year Experience program and has been heavily involved in a great deal of research into the student experience. He has served on both QIT's and Griffith University's Governing Councils as well as on a broad range of Academic and Administrative Committees. He has also had appointments on a range of external and government committees and was a foundation member of the Queensland Studies Authority.

In 2009 Ray Morley relinquished his position as the Director of Student Support Services to accept the fractional appointment of Student Ombudsman at 80%. Ray Morley normally works Monday to Thursday at QUT.

The QUT Student Ombudsman offers a free, confidential and independent service to investigate grievances involving coursework students, as complainants or respondents, usually relating to academic or administrative decisions.
